754635 2009-03-08 21:33:00 Why don't we go a step further and create some Lords, for example - Lord Richwhite of Mount Eden or Lord Faye of Rangipo

Funnily enough, we do have a Lord Cooke of Thorndon

The Right Honourable Robin Cooke, Baron Cooke of Thorndon ONZ KBE QC PC

He was president of the Court of Appeal in New Zealand and then went on to become the president of the Privy Council in London and was therefore made a peer of the realm.

754636 2009-03-08 22:02:00 Can any body say what NZ awards these days, since loss on knighthoods,I can't.

I quite often don't like choice of knighthoods, but it has been ever so.

754637 2009-03-08 22:13:00 NZ has got many economic problems at the moment, that I am surprised that they have passed such as superficial law. They should be concntrating on the problems NZ has, including increasing unemployment and increasing costs of living and inflation. I bleive they have only changed the law to keep their mates happy , who wanted the prestige of being called Sir or Dame. robbyp (2751)
754638 2009-03-08 22:15:00 Titles have been around for yonks.

We call a Magistrate "Your Worship" for example. Some I have had dealings with are somewhat less than worshipful.

Don't get me started on politicians who are "Right Honourable" and aren't.
Would you accept "Yeah, Right Honourable"?

Personally, I am comforted that they are councillors of the Privy. I hope they get accommodation at work, and are frequently flushed with success.

754639 2009-03-08 22:17:00 Personally, I'm more worried about where I'm going to put my castle, once I'm knighted. And where do you get decent Wenches from these days?

Wenches are preferably indecent!

When was the last time you saw some called "Magistrate" in NZ?? They've been gone for about 30 years..

754641 2009-03-08 23:48:00 Magistrate or judge, district court hardly matters what you call them.
One of my mates called a magistrate beak and he didnt care.

754643 2009-03-09 00:02:00 I spent 10 years of my working life regularly attending Court. One of my colleagues was American, and he was deeply amused by the requirement to call Stipendiary Magistrates (and later, District Court Judges) "Your Worship". He swore that one day he would address the Judge as "Your Magisterial Wonderfulness" (he had a number of other fanciful titles that I can no longer recall, but this was my favourite).

To my immense sadness, he never did it; to my everlasting shame, neither did I. I did have a mortgage and three kids at the time, so it seemed a trifle rash.

754644 2009-03-09 00:37:00 My 1st wife was a granddaughter of Sir Keith Holyoake, who as\was a knight of the Garder, we got to go stay at Windsor Castle when we were over there along with the the obligatory meal with the queens sister.

I thought it a wonderful experience and was quite pi88ed when Labour decided to veto the titles in favour of some non-descript NZ honour that mean nothing to anyone outside of NZ. Tell me what the use of that is?

I am glad the titles and wards are back and actually hope my ex's father gets the award and prestigae he deserves after 40+ yrs voluntarily community work!
