754615 2009-03-08 18:09:00 I am all for reinstating the titles the left wing labor party took away.
Its part of my culture we are after all more British than the British. We aint Canadians or aussies who are just clayton yanks anyway.
Most people in NZ are descendant from immigrants from pomland that place is still our motherland.
Dont see the dutch, swedes, norwegians belguims, danish, spanish changing to a republic why should we.
Agree labour people like Rodger Douglas shouldnt have got one. He caused a lot of pain when his labour government was in power.

As an ex Englishman I am astonished that this Pom bashing bus driver actually likes us so hypocritical...

754616 2009-03-08 18:56:00 Lots of pros and cons on this topic .

The reason I am in agreement with reinstating the system . is because of the high handed arrogance that had it removed in the first place . In a true democracy people get to have their say .

Nobody is forced to accept a knighthood and many who do/did accept one never put themselves on a pedestal . Yes, we do all scratch our heads in amazement that a few of those 'honoured' should have ever been given that title . Most of us know the saying about what rises to the top! There are many more who would or should qualify if their true worth and deeds ever become known outside of their peers .

The system isn't perfect, nothing ever is .

754617 2009-03-08 19:31:00 I have a feeling that as a knight, you will be taking on a windmill or two, Don Quixano...
Sorry, that position will be filled by Lord Don Key; the position of windmill is often available though.

Funny, that is exactly what I thought when this miserable shower brought them back in again! I must have missed the bit where they checked out whether there was any desire to have them back!

Next thing they will bring back tugging the forelock; after all, they seem determined to once again snuggle up to Mummy Liz and make us a colony again.

754619 2009-03-08 20:09:00 Miserable shower eh, thats no way to talk about a National government that was overwhelmingly voted in by New Zealanders, show some respect. All labour did was to propel us into a recession, caused a crime wave and was headlong into turning us into a republic. Well I for one dont want to live in a place called the Socialist Republic of New Zealand. A constitutional monarchy suits me fine, republic dumb idea especially like israel where you have a prime minister and a figurehead president. American system dumb as well because president has too many powers. prefect (6291)
754620 2009-03-08 20:26:00 Personally I think currently there are bigger issues to deal with than taking the time pat people on the back and inflate egos.
The guv needs to prioritise issues and leaves these nancy ones for when people have less to moan about.

754622 2009-03-08 20:36:00 Why don't we go a step further and create some Lords, for example - Lord Richwhite of Mount Eden or Lord Faye of Rangipo Dally (6292)

Logic isn't your strong point, is it? So I should show respect for a government on the basis that it was "overwhelmingly" voted in by New Zealanders??? On that basis, I understand your innate desire to show respect for the Nazi government of Germany - after all, it was overwhelmingly supported by the German populace.

Further, given the politics you trail across PressF1, no doubt you have enormous respect for the rights of the individual. Yet you have no respect for my right to hold my own opinion about the worth of this particular excuse for a government. Remember, history shows us that there is never progress under a National government; only regression. Progress in NZ has only ever occurred under a Labour administration.
