2009-03-08 01:09:00 | with my capture card i can capture almost any tape, copyrighted or not, heck even DVDs without any copyright protection mechanisms affecting video in the capture file depending where you are if you are willing to post tapes and burning media i can convert tapes to DVD for much less than $80 per tape (cost of postage if need be) or if your in NZ christchurch you can drop them off i can do them for maybe $10 per tape | williamF (115) | |
2009-03-08 02:49:00 | How is this thread not locked? Why? Not everybody stands around with their head buried in the sand :( Why the hypocrisy? If copying Videos, CDs, DVDs etc is so illegal, why is the blank media available for sale? Why are DVD burners sold on the open market? Get real......................

2009-03-08 02:58:00 | Probably cos theyre not only burners, they also play dvd's and cds If there were no blank media, there would be no point in buying the burners. Unless the only thing you wanted to do, was play dvds (which I doubt) Things got worse, (for the companies etc), when the dual layer burners came out, it made things even easier

2009-03-08 08:03:00 | But he doesn't want to make copies he only wants to make one copy, which I believe he is allowed to do for his personal and non commercial use. Forget that idea, the recent copyright amendment Act allowed the transfer of audio from 1 type of media to another but deliberately left the whole film/tv issue alone. DVD or Video tape backups aren't legal. Check out the bargain bins at DVD stores or The Warehouse. You might find what you are looking for so cheap it's not worth the trouble of getting a poor copy of a tape on DVD.

2009-03-08 10:06:00 | Why? Why? As the OP is asking how to copy copyrighted tapes, and people are telling him how to. Jen has already said this is a no no, but for some reason hasn't done anything about it.

2009-03-08 19:38:00 | I am endeavouring to copy DVDs, but as yet the only bit I am having any luck with is the hole in the middle. I find that all those little bumps in the mirror layer are pretty tricky to punch into the new disc just right. The thing that worries me most is that an inspector from the RIAA may wander past while the parrot is singing some copyrighted work, and take the poor bird off to prison.

2009-03-08 21:37:00 | Why? As the OP is asking how to copy copyrighted tapes, and people are telling him how to. Jen has already said this is a no no, but for some reason hasn't done anything about it. The reason Roddy, is that Jan has seen the light. She has re read my messages and realized I am not trying to upset anybody over copyright. I just want to be able to watch the tapes I have paid good money for and have accepted the fact that VHS devices are going the way of the Dodo. I thought I had made that clear - several times. Obviously I haven't. It does seem that there are commercial operators who will copy the tapes but as I expected, for the price I could buy the DVD anyway several times over. Discussing copyright issues is rather like discussing guns. I have fired 25 pounders, the Lee Enfield, Sten, Bren and even the German Schmeizer, several .22s and airguns. But because I would never under any circumstances use a gun illegally doesn't stop me discussing them Oh and I don't own one. Just to wrap the story up I opened up the cupboard where my tapes have lain virtually unwatched for 10 years or so and took them all out. Lots of them seem to have disapeared. There are few commercial tapes amongst them - so some must be in other odd places (like in the tape storage area under the VHS!). But obviously I do not have as many as I thought and also was amused to see that some of those I found - I already have the later DVD. (Dirty Dancing of course). So I will admit that really it isn't worth me bothering. At 76 and with two fairly recent tape decks it is likely they will see me out. And if I really want to replace any film I have with a DVD then just go out and buy it. Is "Sound of Music" on DVD? Or perhaps I already have it. Tom
