754433 2009-03-07 10:51:00 Auckland. Anything!!!

Nothing that involves driving since I don't/can't drive

So no driver licence as you say don't or can't.

Would you like an employer to pick you up and get you to work and then drop you off again after work?

I suggest you go to your local shop and buy a shovel and pickaxe.
This would enable you to dig a drainage ditch locally of course.

Unless you can persuade a bus driver to detour off the normal route with your pick and shovel.

754434 2009-03-07 10:55:00 Half the problem is that they want peeps with experience. But without a job, you can't get experience and vice versa...

Is there any chance that you actually get out of bed before 6:00 am any day?

You seem to be in the well known catch22 situation.

I don't have a license as I don't want one. And I can walk.

754437 2009-03-07 11:02:00 If you are on the dole, ask for someone to do your CV, they have a contractor that helps clients.

I would just send out letters to recruitment agencies. If you have the can do attitude they may want to sell you. Avoid Hudsons, go for smaller agencies that specialise in lower ended jobs like Kellys, Madison etc. If you are doing some of the shorter term work, some of them don't even have an interview with the employer. If they agency think you are good enof they interview you and hey, Monday start.

My view is if you don't get a call back in a week, then move on.
If on the other hand you are applying to a specific job with the employer they tend to collate all the applicants and then get back to them a week or two after that.

Employers I would just move on, for recruitment agencies call them say that you would like to have a chat to them about what vacancies are available. It shows you are keen.

Edit. In my experience employers can be very nice people. Even via temping, I have had assignments extended. I have even went back to them just to have a social chat. On another temping contract, was for 3 months and I got a payraise and a 4 month contract extension, then I got put to a similar but diff project for a 6 month contract, they were happy for me to look for other work, gave me a great reference and I got a better paying job that is permanent. Again, I have kept in contact with them. They even offered me a permanent role on a different project but I didn't want a career in administration.

Agencies can also be very nice people. I just be honest with them than treat them as a sales person. I just say to them, when a employer talks about salary what should I say etc.. As a result, I have gotten onto off the record conversations with them. I have been with that, employer prior to set up new contract with me, was happy for me to look for other work, the agency who signed me up, loved to help me and apply for me but cos of professionalism couldn't since a contract existed, but they could help me if I apply myself to jobs and give me advise. They said to me, what is impt now is can do approach, and be flexible and incl your income salary band.

I'm not on the dole (nor will I ever be) and I'm with Kellys . No replies from them . . .

Perhaps I should just go down south and start panning for gold for a living . ;)

754439 2009-03-07 11:12:00 Not all jobs, require a car, or a licence (altho, that may depend on the type of job you want to apply for obviously).

Like myself, I can drive, BUT I had no intention of getting a licence or a car.

I wasnt interested in getting one. Because I didnt need it. I couldnt when I was old enough anyway, for medical reasons.

BUT, after 5-10 yrs I could have applied for a licence (or brought a car), but by then having one, and maintaining / looking after it, was too expensive.

In the end, I didnt bother.

I still managed to get good paying jobs, and travelled to and from work by bus for 17 years

A car or a licence isnt everything, and you wont die without one

I too sent a few CV's over the place, and got no replies. So, I'm not going to bother doing that again

I'm not interested in agencies. Never been through one, dont intend to either

I could probably get a job in computers, with my skills. BUT, since I dont have any certificates / whatever, I wont get far

I know exactly how you feel. Finished my degree at the end of November and been looking for any form of I.T. work since and nothing has turned up so far.

Yet countless jobs on Tradme/Seek/etc are offering jobs - you apply - they write back and say that you "Do not quite meet their requirements at this stage".

Yea... it sucks....:stare:

Don't know why you are against them. They could do shortlisting and you attend the interview with the real employer and they offer you a fixed term or permanent contract using a standard salary mid point for that position in that business unit. You are employed by the company so you are on the company's payroll with all perks and stuff, unions etc., not by the agency unless you go tempting, but if you want a job quick temping can be a avenue.

I will need to edit here cos I have ran out of time for the above. In the past I have used agencies for temping, 3 months, 1 month extended. The more recent ones were fixed term contracts by the org itself ie., that 3 month, 4 month and then the 6 month. Then they offered a perm role which I did't take.

I have dealt with agencies before, didn't get it, but they try to sell me for permanent senior roles with salary bands of 80-90k.
