754265 2009-03-07 04:28:00 Thanks everyone.

Well I've tried all your suggestions and got a hit on everyone.

Yep, PCWorld Forums. :D

I'm surprised that there is so little on any of the suggestions.

Never mind, I'll soldier on.

754266 2009-03-07 05:07:00 Hey BM, am I right in assuming the husbands name is Thomson.

If it is then my Thomson ancestors settled in that area, my great great Grandad is buried at Matakohe (n the 1880s) and his brothers farmed in that area

No Nigel, it's Trounson of "Trounson Kauri Park". There's any amount available on old James Trounson but not much on the other side of the family.

There was a huge Hick-up because the Trounson's were staunch Methodists and the Scanlan’s were Irish Catholics.

Anyone familiar with this situation as it would have been 100 years ago will be grimacing about now. :D

Whilst I laugh now, to keep the peace, I had to go to Church twice on Sunday. First Mass at the Catholic Church and then off to the Metho’s.

As soon as I was old enough I abandoned both and offended all the relatives by not having any of my children Christened or sent to any Church. :D

Yes I know, I’m straight off to Hell, but I figure I’d look a right dork sitting on a fluffy white cloud with a Harp. At least down below I’ll be so busy shaking hands with my mates I won’t have to stoke the fire. ;)

754268 2009-03-07 07:53:00 Have you checked out a local Geanealogy club if there is one?
Spelling is important and surnames change. Have you asked living relatives as to what they know or think they know? No use after the relatives are dead and buried or cremated.

I have a family tree going back some years. I have red blood when it leaks out of my skin. I suspect I do not have blueblood.

5th generation Kiwi for me. Does this make me perfect? I do not think so.

I happen to be Anthony Edwin Frew.

754269 2009-03-07 07:54:00 Why dont you get in touch with the Trounsons from Dargaville??

Since they still live up there

May I ask if you are serious about trying to trace your ancestors?
My Mother and Father married because they loved each other. They stayed together until my father died. My Father was Catholic and my Mother was Baptist. They had three children who were sent off to an Anglican Church.

Later we three went our own ways.

754271 2009-03-07 08:27:00 There's some Trunsons here (freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
754272 2009-03-07 22:14:00 Thanks for those links and suggestions guys.

Yes I realise there are some Trounsons around and being an uncommon name are probably related.

However, I’m trying to be discreet and not disturb any old bones if you get my drift. ;)

The other thing is the Trounson side has been relatively easy to sort, but it’s the Scanlan side and this odd Maiden Name for Mary Scanlan that has me stuck.

Anyway, it’s not life and death, thank goodness, but I thought it would be a lot easier than it’s turning out. :D

754273 2009-03-08 00:14:00 If you're looking for scanlens... I know of a couple up near Taupo that may be able to help. Don't have a phone number, but I do have an address. Erayd (23)
754274 2009-03-08 03:04:00 Hi BM, I have the NZ Soc of Genealogists Index.

Matching marriage index:

James TROUNSON marr. CAUGHEY in 1885

too early no doubt.

You could also look up the cemetery records online

Lurking.

Ps. sing out if you need anything else, as I know what it's like constructing family trees.

lurks.
