754512 2009-03-09 05:42:00 You are allowed to keep cars, houses etc. Not sure if you had say, 6 cars....
You are not allowed to have loads of money in the bank. Thats mostly the point of what it says.

Yeah I dunno. I cannot find concrete info to quote. I have heard that some families from people I know that they were told to sell the 2nd house and spend some money before they could get the dole.

But from the app. form and whatever info I could get online assets only refers to hardship.

Cos I am thinking if the threshold per week of working with dole is $120 a week. With low interest rates, a person could have $100,000 in the bank and still get the dole ...

754513 2009-03-09 05:44:00 The last time I was working (before going on the dole) WINZ werent that worried about what I was getting

The only time they did something was when I was made redundant in 1997 (Dec 1997)

Altho, that didnt last long, I was reemployed by the same place in 1998

WINZ need to get their A into G.

The only thing they've done (since I've been on the dole - since 2006), is accuse me of not going into the office down the road, when they had sent a letter (I never received a letter, so didnt know I had to go in). That was their first screw-up

The 2nd was this year, end of Feb (26/27th or something). I received a letter saying I was meant to take in a document from the Dr or they'll cut my benefit. I went to the Dr on the 5th of Feb (thats when he gave me a medical, I took it to WINZ the same day straight after the Dr's)

I rang WINZ, oh sorry yes you did come in. But the person you gave it to didnt tell anything else. The idiots @ WINZ cant even communicate with each other

Let alone with their clients

The unemployment benefit itself isn't asset tested, but the accommodation supplement part is . If the UB was, then I would tell the person who had 200k in the bank to buy and house, car and holiday, to deplete the cash assets, which is really stupid, as they should be encouraging people to save, not spend . I believe they only want to know the cash asset amouts, so they have an idea of what income you would be getting from interest on those savings . At the moment with such low interest rates, it would be very small, which is probably why they are getting more people applying, as there would be a fair amount of people with large cash amounts, who had been living off the interest . They may have got those amounts from inheritance, good saving habits, a high paying job, or property climbing during the last boom .

754515 2009-03-09 06:33:00 Oh dear Speedy.

Perhaps you should use customer rather than client.

I got a rap over the knuckles for confusing the two words at one time.

754516 2009-03-09 06:37:00 The forms you fill in at WINZ are somewhat dopey. What income do you expect to make next year?

Like I can see into the future!

754521 2009-03-10 05:15:00 My view on the dole is that if you have tons of money why should one get it .

It is life, everyone can lose their job, then you be proactive to look for a new one . It may be similar or totally diff or get more / diff training . You have good times and bad times in the economy .
