854404 2010-02-01 17:53:00 Any idea what the cheapest/best value computer store in sydney is? Im over there next week and looking to upgrade my system if the price makes it worth while. Otherwise do stores here in NZ do duty free?

Cheers

854406 2010-02-01 19:47:00 Although, as in NZ, the cheapest usually have the worst customer service. pctek (84)
854407 2010-02-01 20:32:00 sweet - I was hoping there would be an oz version of pricespy. thanks! 12steps (14778)
854408 2010-02-01 20:36:00 Except Sydney is bigger then all of NZ, so a system like Pricespy won't help much unless it is massive.

Best to ask on an aussie computer or gaming forum for recommendations.

854410 2010-02-02 01:42:00 You are 30-40 years too late for the Sydney bargains! You have to be old to remember bringing back TV's, cassette players etc to save money .

Duty disappeared on pretty much all stuff many years ago . We have GST, now!!

I'm old enough to remember sales tax as well.

854412 2010-02-02 02:13:00 dunno what it is but when I bought my c2d system not long after they launched I was able to save a fair amount when buying from ebay in US. Now it seems to be a different story...and the dollars about the same 12steps (14778)

That was fraught with difficulties and risk too! I got a friend to buy me a topline Sony dual-capstan cassette deck in the late '70s and stressed it was to save me money . He arrived in the country, promptly told Customs that it was not his and that he'd bought it for a friend and I had to stump up about $400 in duty on top of the purchase price . A smarter friend brought in two VCRs when they were not yet available here, she got both through Customs no problems, I got mine OK at a very good saving and she sold hers for a handsome profit .
