756149 2009-03-14 00:39:00 Hi Guys,

I have bought a Honda Odyssey (95) and it stil has a original radio and casette player in it, how hard is it to get it out and replace it with a newer system?
I have been browsing online but I only want a radio with cd player that could possibly also play mp3
Can you get car stereo's at the warehouse?

Anyway, feedback welcome.

756150 2009-03-14 01:24:00 Not real easy to get out.
We had our Accord one done at a stereo place and it took them about an hour to change over. We got an MP3 player which plays MP3's loaded on a CD but now there are some with a socket where you can also plug in an MP3 player.

Warehouse may sell them but you probably get what you pay for.

756152 2009-03-14 01:50:00 My car stereo plays MP3s happily, it is a Sony, it came from The Warehouse. So did the one in the previous car. No problems with either. R2x1 (4628)
756153 2009-03-14 14:11:00 Nothing wrong with Warehouse head units, although cheaper bargains can be had with all the sales these days.

Easy enough to swap out by yourself though, I think Bantu is just a bit of a woman.

Open rear hatch. Insert corkscrew firmly into cassette slot. Link corkscrew and tree with wire rope. Drive smartly forward. Install new radio. :banana :badpc:

756158 2009-03-14 23:04:00 Most factory and even new replacement head units require a pair of release tools .

Check in the glove box and see if they are still in there or you tossed them out a while ago thinking they were leftover pieces and bits from the assembly line .

They may look like two "L-shaped" pieces of stamped steel or even a pair of long-ish pins in the same L-shape .

They go into the sides of the current head unit after the trim bezel is removed (careful!) and they will release the anti-theft locks if you do it right .

Another careful thing to consider is that you may have a VIN-assigned head unit in there from the factory if it's a premium system and it will NOT play in another vehicle . These units are all but worthless to after-marketers and thieves as they cannot be re-coded to work with a different VIN .

They are designed to fry and commit suicide if they suspect that they have been moved to a different vehicle - kinda like Windows OPSYS - they will deny access and lock up on you .
