854913 2010-02-03 07:05:00 I can get a 1.8ghz celeron processor for $71 or a dual core 1.93ghz for $209. Is the more expensive dual core really worth it? icow (15313)
854914 2010-02-03 07:09:00 Celerons are lower spec, cheaper, and crap. Speedy Gonzales (78)

854916 2010-02-03 07:39:00 Yes and double yes. Two cores are SO much more responsive. Don't even hesitate. linw (53)
854917 2010-02-03 08:02:00 Also, the Celeron range generally has a much smaller Level 2 cache
Which further restricts performance on top of the lack of the second processor core.

854918 2010-02-03 08:13:00 first thought was, YES!

but...

it depends on what budget you have?
and what your doing with it?
and what your upgrading from?

a celeron would be a nice cheap upgrade from an old P3.
a celeron would be fine if your building a firewall.

but if your building a real system then go for the best chip you can afford, it will last longer.

When your talking about 2 cores are you talking Core 2 duo, AMD X2 or Pentium D? just to be sure?

If your talking Core 2 duo then dont hesitate, if Pentium D dual core then run for your life :p

854921 2010-02-03 18:47:00 The performance difference is so noticable I stopped using Celerons in my budget builds.

Wonder if you use Semprons for budget builds?

And yes, I agree - Celerons are crap.
