854667 2010-02-02 21:13:00 Most X58 motherboards have at least 2x 16x PCIE-E slots. However if you want USB3, it will limit your options and increase your budget. qazwsxokmijn (102)
854668 2010-02-02 21:32:00 You may need Windows 7 to get USB 3, and then you'll have to wait for SP1 to come out, before USB 3 will work. Since I dont think Vista supports it, and Windows 7 as is doesnt support it yet Speedy Gonzales (78)
854669 2010-02-02 22:05:00 Depends on the device if it is USB3 right too
That older printer won't go much faster, how about a older HDD enclosure?

854670 2010-02-02 22:20:00 Yes Im going to win7 64bit. As for the usb3 its just to have some level of "futureproofing" if there is such a thing anymore lol.

With the pci-e slots I need them to both run at 16x (1x video card, 1x raid controller)

Any thoughts on specific motherboards that would fit the bill?

Cheers, Pete

854671 2010-02-02 23:12:00 What's your budget? And personally I don't think USB3 is that big of a deal. qazwsxokmijn (102)

854673 2010-02-03 00:17:00 You're kidding right? If you havent got the cpu yet, that'll cost more than the mobo Speedy Gonzales (78)

The cheapest would probably only be Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R, and that's USB2.

With only a max of $300 you'll only get entry-level X58 motherboards. Even the Asus P6T SE is over $300.
