| 854899 | 2010-02-03 23:06:00 | We have 2 connections here - Cable:www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) Telecom ADSL: www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) Done just at start of lunchtime, so all you sods just jumping on the web during your break have slowed us down a bit from the usual!! As for pathetic results, I was at some of my non-techy in-laws over the holidays & was horrified to see 0.26 down/0.13 up - they're on some 256k/128k limited plan! |

| 854903 | 2010-02-04 19:22:00 | How do you managed that!?! naaaa its a work link, this morning.... :P www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) But honestly guys, a person showing 4Mbps on Speedtest can have generally faster "real life" downloads than someone showing 8Mbps on Speedtest. It all depends on the hops to your source excluding factors like traffic shaping. I cringe when I see these threads, its even worse when i see tech articles using it to test ISP performance written by journalists that doesn't know any better. If you want to test your REAL download performance, use multisource downloading from a known fast source. |

| 854905 | 2010-02-06 07:56:00 | +1 for Battleneter2's thoughts. When you're browsing, you *rarely* go over 30 -> 50KB/sec... VERY rarely, unless you're doing interactive content or video. Even then, it peaks as you load the page, then flattens out to nothing for the next 20-odd seconds while you read what's on the page. Seriously, a well-done 1mbps connection can whip the pants off a poorly done 8mbps connection ANY day! icow, what are your pingtest.net scores? (Not SPEEDtest, but PINGtest ;) ) |
