| 854676 | 2010-02-03 01:22:00 | I was thinking something along the lines of this: Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard, Socket 1156, 4xDIMM DDR3, 2xPCIe-16, 3xPCI, 2xPCIe-1, 14xUSB2, Audio, 1xATA, 8xSATA, RAID, ATX $255 |

| 854677 | 2010-02-03 03:23:00 | difference between p55 and x58 in terms of performance? Not a lot in performance, but to paste 920 vs 860 from another thread. Core i7 860 (1156) -Slightly faster than the 920 esp due to "better" turbo mode at stock speeds -Slightly Lower power consumption than the 920 due to better power management and therefore heat. -Overall, slightly cheaper than the 920(1366) Core i7 920: (1366) -Triple channel memory compared to dual channel memory for the 1156 (can run dual channel however) -Probably better future proofing due to 6 core Gulftown support on the 1366. 1156 wont have this and may discontinue earlier. -Easier to overclock because the PCI-e bus is not on the CPU -PCIE 16x16 over 1156 8x8, 1156 "may" top out with future CF or SLI boards. Just depends if the small advantages of 1366 are worth the $150 ish price difference to you personally (can cost more depending on boards). For me 1366 is a no brainier, but to others its not worth it. |

It's working pretty well for me so far (I assume the model number is actually GA-P55A-UD4, my one is this one: pbtech.co.nz) You may need Windows 7 to get USB 3 Or Linux, the Linux kernel has supported USB3 for a long time now. More useful would be some devices which actually use USB3. |

| 854679 | 2010-02-03 08:18:00 | If your on a budget then go p55, I didnt really have a budget in mind but Ive learnt that you cant really future proof without spending stupid money so I went 1156. I only intend one gettin 18months out of this system before I feel the need to upgrade again but in saying that I cant see this system being anywhere near slow in 3 years time. If your thinking cheap then go 1156, on the whole you wont notice a huge difference because they are both bloody fast cpus. USB3 is a waste of time at this stage, unless you use it all the time but I cant think why anyone would for anything other than flash drives and printers |

| 854680 | 2010-02-03 08:18:00 | I've just bought a P7P55D-E Pro www.computerlounge.co.nz but it doesn't run both PCIe slots at 16 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16 or dual at x8 / x8 mode) 3 x PCIe 2.0 x1 (2 at 5GT/s [blue]; 1 at 2.5GT/s [gray]) 2 x PCI Pricing wasn't too bad when doing a combo deal. |

What cpu? Have you overclocked at all? Sorry to hijack thread but I have the P7P55D and wanted to know if you thought the pro was worth it |

| 854682 | 2010-02-03 09:06:00 | Hi, Just got the I5 2.66 as I was having to keep the initial cost down. Thought that getting the E-Pro with USB 3.0 and Sata 6 support would future proof the new build for a few extra weeks! Later I can get an I7 CPU when (if) they get cheaper. Haven't built it yet (just got the last bits on Friday), but reviews are good. Will start a thread with all the components I've bought. Not a high-spec machine, but should keep things going for 3 or 4 years......... |
