756099 2009-03-14 00:15:00 This plan means that the subscriber is hooked in for at least 12 months (24 months with free modem offer).
I'm not too sure about this; if it's so good why the minimum term of contract?
At face value, they say, comparing it to my present plan, I'd be about $19/mth better off.
My feeling is there must be something better hovering in the wings, probably from competition and they're just attempting to give themselves some forward cover.
I mean why would they possibly be offering me something that gives me a saving and them a bit less income?
I looked at Vodafone and Xnet, when this popped up, but I feel a bit dubious about them too; "better the devil you know.......".
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

756100 2009-03-14 00:33:00 Who are you with now?
And why not stay there - getting bad service?

I don't like Telecom.
The mail servers aren't theirs - there's weird stuff with the email often, the helpdesk is in Manila and don't worry about their lack of profit - they get fees off all the others who resell the lines - you think they still aren't making loads even with their lame 3 months discount? Of course they are. They make mnoney off you even if you (like me) don't have any services with them.....

756101 2009-03-14 01:03:00 Quite a few ISPS do that.

They'll give you a free modem (which is usually crap).

Or some security suite (I think one was Mcafee). Which is also crap.

Thankfully, I never had to find out. Its like a bribe, we'll give you a free modem stay with us, or pay the price.

Thats one of the reasons, I went with Xnet (altho, if I were told their speed would get slacker, (because of their stupid torrent plan), I wouldnt have bothered joining

Something else I hate about most of the ISP's, is their $10 fee, for their home phone option, or whatever it is. Not my fault if I dont have a phone.

I'm not going to pay an extra $10.

I'm with Telecom; don't know about the service; would it be any better than any of the others? . . . not sure? I guess that's why I've been loathe to change, and I've heard what Speedy said about xnet i . e . their speed got slacker .
Although, I wonder if that'd make much difference out here (14 kms from town), where the best I get is 1 . 5 mb downloads, off a cabinet about 1km away .

As for e-mail, got myself a domain name (on Geoff Palmer's recommendation), as they were so bad but still have to depend on their smtp .

As for their help desk, that's a laugh . I rang them once and couldn't understand a thing he was saying, so said "this is going nowhere" and hung up .

I guess really, the question is, I can possibly save $19 a month by changing to their "total home" plan . But what's the hidden agenda?

Had toble some years ago with D-Link,so I have fingers crossed till Sppedy tells me which is best..
He may have gone off to Thailand as I am at the end of April.

I have no idea, I'm just using a dlink G604T (brought it, didnt get it from Xnet).

Havent had any probs with it since 2006. 3 PC's, and the Xbox are connected to it. All work fine. What more do I need?

My plan doesnt give me ADSL2, so there's no point in getting an ADSL2 + modem / router (the modem already supports it)

Ah,I thought in view of the fact that you thought one was crap, that you knew a bit more than that.
