759167 2009-03-24 20:10:00 Hi guys, looking for software suggestions for manipulating scanned images into common program formats like Word, PDF etc. We currently have an old version of scansoft paperport (9 ), but I dont think we need all the functions of that program to justify upgrading....

Ideas?

759168 2009-03-24 20:30:00 Omnipage Pro would probably be one of the best OCR programs around

But its not free / cheap either. By the looks of it, its $499 !

759169 2009-03-24 20:39:00 I can recommend Omnipage Pro - although I have version 14 and it's now at version 16.

Easy to use and incredibly accurate at translating images to text.

759170 2009-03-24 20:46:00 Hmm its worse in NZ, by the looks of it, Mistralsoftware are the distributors.

And Pro is $1123.88, and 995 for the Academic / Govt version !

Or $448 for Pro (upgrade), $381 for Acad/Govt (upgrade).

Or $299 for Omnipage 16, $259 for Acad / Govt version

759171 2009-03-24 20:48:00 Yeah, we have around 50 users!.....I have seen omipage, however all we really need is a program like paper port which allows you to send the scanned image to another format...we have big document centre printer\copiers, which allow network scanning to mailboxes, have the utility to access the mailboxes from the desktops, but the end product where you manipulate the doc, ie: rotate, un\stack etc, then say e-mail, or create pdf. We hardly ever use OCR. SolMiester (139)

759174 2009-03-24 21:16:00 Hmmm, nah, that didnt play that well with Vista....looked like a 16bit program to me....

I need more options...

759175 2009-03-24 21:23:00 Is Office 2003 / 07 installed on any of these??

It looks like MS Office Document Imaging is one of the options (it may not install, unless you do a custom install). This is an OCR program

759176 2009-03-24 22:17:00 I think microsoft publisher can scan images directly into publisher, and you can save them as common image files from publisher as well. pantera989 (14533)
