758733 2009-03-23 04:05:00 This computer may be old - only a 486 desktop - but not only does it run Win98 with no problems (it is not supposed to be able to do that), but it has been the most reliable computer we have ever owned.
Long retired it has been used by my wife (and me at times) for playing games etc. Freecell is lovely - you can watch the cards shooting across the screen slowly enough to be able to watch. The monitor is fairly new and perfect.
It has a CD reader and two cheap and nasty speakers which in fact sound far better and cleaner than my much more expensive and amplified speakers on my desktop.
It has no modem so cannot be used on the internet.
Now we need the space so it must go. I reckon it would be good value for some family with very young children - far better than paying around $40 for a toy computer that does next to nothing.
It has MSWORKS, DCWIN and other programs and games.
I think it is worth something. But what?
I would hate to just give it away - I want it to go somewhere it would be used - it could of course even run a small business.
What do you think it would be worth?
I would give a months "money back if faulty guarantee."
A nine pin printer would go with it. I don't expect anything for that.

758735 2009-03-23 04:47:00 Its worth nothing sadly, I have seen P11 computers in working condition that people wouldnt pay $1 for.
In fact it might have a negative value, money required to dump it.

758737 2009-03-23 05:54:00 My spare computer is a Pentium 4, so I have no use for a 486 (though I could start a museum :D). pcuser42 (130)

758740 2009-03-23 09:31:00 Hi Thomas

Man, your post brought back some memories. I built my supa-dupa 486 outta three stuffed ones. Installation of Windows 98 was a breeze despite me watching it every second expecting it to fail. :groan: Everybody was telling me how it would never work but it did and extremely well. :banana Just like yours. This was due to the fact, I think, I maxed out the RAM.

Taught my kids computing on that 486 long before the school had one. Both my daughters are now in IT and earning big buck$.

Don't know what your computer is worth in dollars but :thanks for the memories.

758742 2009-03-23 11:11:00 My rather elderly Wang 386 works when I haul it out on rare occasions. Dos, Win 3.1.1. and a few DOS programs, the best being QuickMenu.
No Aero interface as yet.
