757971 2009-03-20 00:14:00 I have just read Ted's and Geoff's articles about the issue of Section 92A.

I have to agree and I have been saying the same thing to my clients who have been in a panic lately as to what they are going to do.
The ISP can't be burdened with being a watchdog and then having to deal with customers who are being cut off.

I have an idea and it is on the lines of the sur-charge as well, if everyone who has an internet connection agrees to pay an additional $5.00 a month to their ISP and the ISP sent the money from this sur-charge to the RIAA and let them deal with the paying out to the bands each month and that will cover the consumers compliance with the copyright laws that they so eagerly want us to follow.

If the RIAA refuses this deal...well then, they get nothing and they have no reason to cut the consumer off from their ISP and internet service.
If the math is done on just 20 million people with a broadband connection at $5.00 a month that adds up to a big chunk of change to be giving to the artist each month for as long we have an internet connection.

No more court time wasted, bands get a check each month, the consumer gets his/her music and we have have our freedom on the internet.

Isn't it bad enough that govts are blocking certain websites from us as it is?
What happened to the freedom of choice?
I see thngs heading in the very wrong direction, as I read a while back , the internet was to be a way for us to reach others and express our selfs and for it be something in the lines of "Freedom of The Press," we should see this web block as trying to control what we read and view.

So as I see it, this all started in the USA so why not make a stand on Independence Day (July 4th) and say we have had enough of Big Business running us into the ground haven't they done enough to our lives and what we do on our time with our freedom.

757972 2009-03-20 00:17:00 What about those who don't download music, movies etc?
Why should they pay and extra $5 per month?

Why should the money go to the RIAA?
It should go straight to the artists. If the $5 went to the RIAA the artists would probably get about 20c of that at most.

I agree its a pain for ISPs.
But what a joke - $5 a month? I know some file leeches who download all sorts fo stuff they never even bother with much.
$5 a month wouldn't even begin to recompense the artists.
Why should people get away with stealing?

Give it a few years and maybe no-one will ever bother writing new music - why would they when they can't make a living from it?

757975 2009-03-20 00:46:00 Why should I pay even 2c a year to some recording conglomerate when I don't bother downloading music (Not a totally unique custom)?
If the fee extraction system they have doesn't work in this world, maybe it is their system that deserves to be uprooted and replaced. At the same time, those upholding the status quo should make up any deficits to the artists from their "performance bonuses".

Using a free web hosting provider doesn't do much to enhance the company's image...

757979 2009-03-20 03:08:00 So musicians and the music industry should get money just because there is the internet? Sorry, but that's just a dumb idea. Deane F (8204)

Because its an interest/passion. Not for making money, only the few lucky ones get through to that stage

I think it was Marilyn Manson who said that he doesnt care if people download his music, he makes his money touring and selling merchandise, both things that you cant be pirated.

The only way i see internet pirating stopping is when the things being pirated are actually affordable. $25-30 for a cd is ridiculous
