| 757578 | 2009-03-18 19:55:00 | The Warehouse has Colt and Firebrand motor mowers (lawn mowers) - that cost around $330 - $400. Are they any good? I suspect that the opinions of PF1ers will probably trash Warehouse brands but I wonder if anyone has actually used one of their motor mowers or has a reliable report from a friend or neighbour who has used one? Is there some other shop that has good deals on motor mowers? We don't want to pay $800+. |

| 757580 | 2009-03-18 20:51:00 | Consumer found the GMC RL504 pretty good for $347 but said the steel body wouldn't last as long as a aluminum one. It has a good reliable Briggs & Stratton motor. Made in China BTW. :) |

Who else would run steel piston rings in an ally bore. Who else would run the big end bearings direct onto the ally con rods? Be suprised how long a steel deck on a rotary mower lasts, usually outlast the engine. Me old man has a pile of B&S engines used on the baccy pickers. Put a Honda on it went it never missed a beat. |

| 757585 | 2009-03-18 22:33:00 | Interesting - have used B&S for as long as I can remember, never had any issues. Same here. Our old mower has a B&S motor and it starts first pull even in winter and will cut wet long grass (if I have remembered to do the annual blade sharpening). I think PF1er 'prefect' must have commercial experience; Honda motors are superior and would be used by commercial lawn mowers but of course they are more expensive. Although our old mower works OK, we need it for another property (that has a small lawn) so this is why we need a new mower. Budget? Well I have never bought a new mower and really don't want to spend a lot if cheap B&S mowers will do the job. Our lawn is an average house section size. Sure, an alloy body is better than steel but it would hurt to pay around $800 or more. Steel will eventually rust but it depends how you look after the mower and if the rust is treated. Our old (15+ yrs) mower's steel body is fine; the steel catcher rusted so I riveted a sheet of galvanized steel onto it. New catchers are either plastic or fabric. Back to my original questions: Has anyone actually used a Warehouse motor mower or has a reliable report from a friend or neighbour who has used one? Is there some other shop that has good deals on motor mowers? |
