758753 2009-03-25 10:16:00 wow, I just realised that I did misread that reply (damn unlucky post). Anyway, still doubtful that it would run xubuntu. I don't even remember 486's being able to run wundows 3.11 very well. didanick (13408)
758754 2009-03-25 11:05:00 a 486 DX 100 should have no problem with Win 3.1.1. :)
They can do handstands and perform quite well with Peanut Linux, which I favoured back in the days.

758755 2009-03-25 19:02:00 Well my old 486 (broken) had many a problem with windows 3.11. The only thing that worked properly was dos. didanick (13408)
758756 2009-03-25 23:42:00 486's weren't designed to run windows 98, let alone xp. If your xp computer couldn't run xubuntu, this certainly won't.

What a stupid reply.
You've completely misconstrued my post.
Never mind your spelling, it's your reading and comprehension that need improvement.

Oh dear I seem to have started something here.
Normally I love it when we get off subject but just to restate things, I was wondering if my old 486 was worth anything and YES it does run Win98 without any problems - despite the instructions etc telling me that it was not up to the job.

Never tried XT on it!!

758759 2009-03-28 21:43:00 Didanick has already offered to buy it. I have no idea how much for. Sweep (90)

And that is the problem.
Didanick does not know what it is worth and neither do I. Obviously not so darn much.
I think as it is still in use I will leave it in the too hard basket for the moment. Might consider selling it when it is classed as a genuine antique.
Not far off now.

758761 2009-03-29 02:33:00 As a quite irrelevant aside, Windows 3.1 would run on a 286. Terry Porritt (14)

These things usually go for $20 on trademe. I'm willing to offer more if all is in order.

Do you know if it is using a VGA screen? If not, do you have DOS drivers for the graphics card? Or any driver disks for that matter?
