856026 2010-02-08 00:39:00 Installed SP2, im now assuming it might be the A/V - Microsoft Security Essentials aidanmaz (7180)
856027 2010-02-08 01:21:00 Or hardware issues. Agent_24 (57)
856028 2010-02-09 03:18:00 i think i know what the issue is. I have a WD Green drive, so it uses less power, which has a lower performance. this causes lags when i am trying to do things. i notice playing music has this lag halfway through, kinda like it would when i stream, it pauses for a sec. I think these drives are designed for storage, like server storage. aidanmaz (7180)

I still think its a software issue.

The transfer rate of these drives are not substantially lower.
I would watch the processes, see which process is causing it. 'Sys internals' will show you more than you need to know aswell. I havent used them on w7 or vista though. technet.microsoft.com

856030 2010-02-09 03:35:00 Yeah a friend had much trouble with his as the primary,
got a WD black series and used the green as secondary.
All good now.
I believe (but haven't been able to find) there is a dos utility
which can disable the disc spin down (which is what I think is your problem)

you must mean a fan? This is espected when your pc is at 100% cpu use for any length of time.

I dont see how the drive is spinning down unless it is has EXTREMELY aggressive powersaving.OSes will be accessing it so often it shouldnt be able to spin down.

Normally I use say an ~80gb trusted drive for my OS too.

856033 2010-02-10 21:47:00 Have you tried running system diagnostic like Memtest to eliminate faulty hardware? Agent_24 (57)
856034 2010-02-11 04:24:00 Yes have used memtest, no errors. In a period of 1 hour the fan starts up quite alot, yet there doesnt seem to be anything using the cpu too much. I checked airflow internally and its all sweet. aidanmaz (7180)
