758744 2009-03-24 03:15:00 I'd be happy to buy it off you! As long as I can get DOS working on it (I have install floppys).

How much do you want for it?

758745 2009-03-24 21:34:00 My rather elderly Wang 386 works when I haul it out on rare occasions. Dos, Win 3.1.1. and a few DOS programs, the best being QuickMenu.
No Aero interface as yet.

Quickmenu
A wonderful program and I used it for years.
Sadly its too expensive (well it was the last time I checked it out) and with XT no longer needed.
I do remember the good days when Menu programs were all the rage. A good menu program to me at least seems much better than the chaotic system we have now with our icons on desktops.

Now there is the problem. The reason for this thread was for me to find out if there was any chance of selling it and if so how much should I charge.

At the moment I am torn between seeing what it fetches at our next garage sale - finding some worthwhile kid who badly needs it - or giving it to my far too young great grandchildren for them to learn on eventually.

I require it for programming work, and for school music composition using a very old adlib sequencer. Anyway, it's up to you who you sell it to. But, I am very interested in acquiring this if all is in order.

758748 2009-03-25 08:15:00 A couple of weeks ago I installed Xubuntu on a low spec, old machine that was running Win XP like a dog. Everthing took forever to load and the disk was continually whirring and clacking. With Xubuntu, it has become like a new machine.

I wonder if Xubuntu would run on a 486?
It has a CD drive, so you could try it using a live CD.

486's weren't designed to run windows 98, let alone xp. If your xp computer couldn't run xubuntu, this certainly won't.

Wow. Good thing it's not Friday!

758752 2009-03-25 09:40:00 Oh no! Not another "not Friday" day. There are getting to be far to many of that sort of day since Keys and his mates got in.
Probably gave all the Fridays to the knights of the round table. ;)
