Just one other point, you may not be able to get an exact 60 ohm resistor. As we are just testing a power supply not the space shuttle, get the closest value to 60 ohms. That will be ok too.

56 ohms is the nearest preferred value. Personally speaking, I use 12 volt car bulbs as test loads because you can see what is happening and they don't get as hot as resistors. Headlamps for high loads, parking lights for lower loads, and for low-power packs miniature lamps are fine. A little bit of maths tells you the current loading, or meter the on-load volts/current as required.

White-hot seems a bit beyond any carbon film resistors I have been able to keep in circuit for more than a micro-second. ;)

Yeah, I know ;)

You are absolutely right for general servicing you can't beat the old Tech's trick of car light bulbs.

What we have here however, is a once only test. Trying to make it as cheap, easy and simple as possible. Noticed I suggested two wattages - 2.5 w, nearest calculated value, and 5 w, the value DSE have. The 5 w ones are wire wound which will easily take the load. Cost: One buck.

Jeez, now I've blown my cover. There I was, masquerading on-line as a virile young electronics whizz-kid, and now thanks to you, it appears I've been unmasked as a grizzled old tech with shaky hands, thick glasses, an old & holey home-knitted woollen jersey, no hair, no teeth, no lead left in my pencil, and wearing incontinence pants.

Only one of the above is even remotely close to the truth.

Cheers

Let me guess........it's the adult-sized pull-ups (www.1800wheelchair.com), right?

Reusable incontinence pants? :horrified If ever I heard a contradiction in terms, that one would fill my socks!

If you are guessing at which one is true SJ, let's just say I sometimes wear a beanie in winter.

758397 2009-03-24 10:33:00 The mind boggles.
I find SWMBO insists I wear at least a shirt and some form of pants when we go out - even in summer. Just a beanie would involve excursions and alarums. Since I would be the one being excurted, I agree with her.

Fill your socks? Well - could be!

We had Pampers on our kids when we had kids, that is .

It said on the box; "For 6 to 10 lbs" and they are right . That's all they can hold!

PS: We have signs on our eateries and other markets here in the US that say: "No Shoes/No shirt: NO SERVICE"

They don't mention pants though .
