757588 2009-03-18 23:57:00 The Warehouse has Colt and Firebrand motor mowers
Is there some other shop that has good deals on motor mowers? We don't want to pay $800+.

No experience with Firebrand.
Colt - loads of friends, neighbours, aquaintances have had bad experiences.

Buying cheap in things like this doesn't save you money - cause you end up replacing them often.

Buy decent and it will last ages - with maintenance of course.

We have had B&S motors that last and last - course Husband maintains them, does oil changes, cleans them after every use etc.

If you haven't got the money look for a quality one on TM - and go pick it up so you can check it properly. We got an excellent 3 in 1 decent one that way for 1/2 new price. Nothing wrong with it at all, just needed to buy a catcher for it.

Exactly. Cheaper is a waste of money, you'll end up spending more to fix/replace cheap things (even the cost of taking it back - postage/petrol etc) adds to the cost

Unless you only used it once a year or something then it might be perfect for you.

Of course, you still need to properly maintain a good quality one, which is the problem with most people. They seem to think that "Good quality" = "I don't have to maintain it because it's so good" and then wonder why it breaks.

Good quality = When maintained properly, it will last a much longer time

757590 2009-03-20 01:22:00 I am using a colt at the moment, loaned to me by my kind sister with plastic catcher (maybe 3 yeas old but hardly used??)

Now for the real info:
Would i buy one - nope

It wont catch long grass at all, i have to mow the lawns every week other wise a 30 miunte job turns into a 2 hour one. My sister said it has been like that since day one... I cleaned out the catcher so it had more air flow and it helped slightly, and the blade is in good nick??. (But wet lawns are even worse - my old lawnmaster is heaps better)
Motor runs fine, and starts easily enough, but if it cannot catch grass effortlessly...
My sister asked how it was and unfortunately i had to be honest.. Crap bless her
