856332 2010-02-08 23:58:00 Dell had some awesome deals for students about 3 weeks ago, laptop, case, extra 19" monitor, MS office student and a printer...think it was like $1300!! SolMiester (139)
856333 2010-02-09 02:24:00 Ok thanks for the tips everyone and the links Chill. So do you reckon that 2GB ram is sufficient for day to day use? Given say Outlook and an A/V running at a minimum?
Yup.

856335 2010-02-09 07:46:00 Thanks for the help everyone. Will recommend that Toshiba laptop. Was going to ask a question about the dvd drive but downloaded the manual and saw that it definitely had dvd writing capacity.

Cheers

856336 2010-02-09 17:38:00 Yup, can write to + discs, - discs, and dual-layer too. I just bought one of those yesterday for the 2nd customer this week. They all love it! Just remove the built-in Office '07 crap, Toshiba junk like Bulletin Board, Wildtangent games, then throw in a copy of Security Essentials and Chrome and they're set! :)

You'll optionally want a blank DVD, as there's a desktop icon that allows you to make "Restore Discs", in case things go belly up you can restore your PC from them.

Probably off to get another two of them today, one for another customer and one for my brother and his wife ... selling like hotcakes they are!!!

856337 2010-02-09 21:25:00 Oh that's great. Thanks for the pointer. Just for my own edification, have people had bad experiences with Dell? Or is it just had a lot of better experiences elsewhere? GorCh (13021)
856338 2010-02-10 07:09:00 Pretty much. I know a few people who've bought Dells. All failed, but at least their tech support is good and fast. Chilling_Silence (9)
856339 2010-02-10 07:19:00 I know I wouldn't buy a Dell for myself. I think that says enough... Agent_24 (57)
