856603 2010-02-09 07:23:00 I have WIN7 on my master HDD.

What would I have to lookout for if I decided to install say XP, or 98 on my second (slave), empty HDD?

You might ask why bother? I guess because it is something to do and will add to my learning.

Booting might be a problem but I can use, I guess, EasyBCD and Win7's install disk to straighten out the kinks.

Any helpful thoughts?:banana

856604 2010-02-09 07:27:00 You would probably have to do a clean install / install XP then Win 7. And if you've got more than 1 GB, 98 will probably crash Speedy Gonzales (78)
856605 2010-02-09 07:36:00 What if I disconnect the master HHD, Install on the slave and then reconnect the master?

I didn't realise that 98 was limited to 1GB. I have tried to install 98 on my old 6 GB PC and had untold problems, would that be the reason?

856606 2010-02-09 07:51:00 Yup that'll be the reason why 98 crashes, it can only go to 512 / 768mb. There is a workaround to make it a bit higher, but it'll definitely crash with more than 1 GB. How much ram is in this PC?? Is 6 GB the size of the hdd or the amount of ram? No it'd be better if you install XP then Win7. Otherwise it may not work properly, if you remove the hdd then install XP, then reconnect the hdd with Win 7 on it. The option to boot from either, may not appear

You usually installl the earliest OS to the latest not the latest to the earliest

856607 2010-02-09 08:23:00 Unless you're really keen on dual booting different versions of windows, I'd just Virtual Machine it (Virtual PC, VMWare Player, Virtual Box). psycik (12851)

+1

And you don't risk making your Windows 7 unbootable...

856609 2010-02-09 19:47:00 It will in fact be unstable at anything over 512mb. pctek (84)
856610 2010-02-09 21:48:00 I think youd learn more, the hard way by multi booting. Instead I would use vmware server or virtualbox. That way you dont brick your system and have no way to ask for help pkm (13527)
