| 856349 | 2010-02-08 10:44:00 | Well its that time again so might as well get some good advice to start me off. I am querying a new case in another thread but I need to hit more meaty topics in this one. Motherboard P55 or X58, read a few reviews but can't see much difference between them Socket 1366 or 1156? Brand? (not ASUS) CPU i7 What else is important? Ram 8gb 4x 2gb Speed? Brand? PSU I have a Corsair 750w Do I need a bigger one? These things move faster than I do and every time I upgrade I find myself playing catch-up, any help appreciated. |

| 856350 | 2010-02-08 11:48:00 | For future proofing, X58 for sure. Plus X58 can provide 2x full x16 PCIE lanes. Three channel memory, as opposed to P55's dual channel. CPU.....just get an i7 920 with the X58. RAM - preferably 1600, Supertalent, Corsair, OCZ, Kingston, all good. PSU is plenty enough. |

| 856353 | 2010-02-08 19:07:00 | ASUS is not an option. First a Motherboard failure due to crap drivers when I started my last build and recently a graphics card failure, both ASUS. Little wary of them now. |

| 856354 | 2010-02-09 05:53:00 | Ok so I have a preliminary list, please feel free to comment. Decided to leave the current computer as it is and build a new one from scratch with the exception of the fairly new graphics card I brought and optical drives which will come with me to the new machine. Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Socket 1366 Box Corsair Dominator GT DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL8 4x2GB Corsair CMPSU-1000HX 1000W Case to be decided. I would like some recommendations for a after-market cooling solution for the CPU, something that is quiet as possible. I am not looking at going for water cooling in this build. |
