856243 2010-02-08 02:11:00 I have been asked by a local radio station to investigate incorporating 'live' radio streaming into their website. Having never attempted this before I was wondering if anybody here has had some previous experience. Got completely lost goooogling it all..... fnphoto (2434)

If the streaming service is configured to be made available in New Zealand only, then bandwidth / cost issue shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Good old VLC has such service available: www.videolan.org

856252 2010-02-08 22:16:00 if you co-locate a server in a datacentre often NZ traffic is 'free',its the international bandwidth which costs.

What you do in effect is have audio stream out to a server, this server streams the audio to the public. This way your radio station internet connection, which could well be on an expensive business plan wont get hammered with $10,000 data costs/month.

There probably are radio stream services out there already, but If you you know some one with some rackspace you can go that way also.

The good thing about radio is that you could use a VPS which is cheaper- since no data is required to be stored. Have a look at http://boosh.fm/ they even have a 256k mp3 stream!
