760287 2009-03-28 21:18:00 Got a message from Avast saying to make sure your computer is secure on April 1st. The reason being is that alot of virus and malware writers release there vermon on the internet on this day.

760288 2009-03-28 21:29:00 One of them being the latest variant of the conficker worm. Which is probably the main reason Speedy Gonzales (78)
760289 2009-03-28 21:59:00 Yep, April 1st, the Conficker / downadup worm is programmed to do something. Nobody knows what though. the_bogan (9949)
760290 2009-03-28 22:15:00 Surely there's *some* code-writer out there who's been able to disassemble it and figure out what its going to do.

We have people that're able to break pretty much every copy protection on the market through reverse-engineering, we have geniuses write some very encryption algorithms and yet nobody knows what this little sucker is going to do on April 1st? Doubtful ...

IMO somebody knows and isn't telling, possibly not wanting to spread FUD.

Anyways, I got the popup but was watching a movie and couldnt get up in time to click the link.. Did it say much else?

760291 2009-03-28 22:20:00 Do as much damage as possible. Thats its intention

Here's one link (arstechnica.com)

It'll hit more domains than A or B did, by the looks of it.

The reason nobody knows what it's going to do is because the code hasn't arrived yet. All we know is that it will request a signed executable package from a given set of domains, download it, and (if the signature is valid) run it. Because we don't have the executable yet, we'll have no idea what it actually does until virus installations start running it. Hence why nobody knows what it will do.

We know exactly what it does *now*, just not what the new code will do.
