My concern is the impact that this will have on our power network.

Remember during Y2K the power companies made a big deal of telling people not to turn off their appliances, as the sudden spike in demand as people turn things back on could overload the grid? Remember the power companies issuing similar warnings when Auckland wanted to do a "blackout" campaign in support of a sports team? It is interesting to me that they have stayed relatively silent on this issue.

Thoughts/comments?

759454 2009-03-25 07:53:00 I'll be doing everything I can to offset it. I'll turn on every appliance I have, burn car tyres in the back yard, eat more food, and chop down a tree. pine-o-cleen (2955)

759458 2009-03-25 14:50:00 Untwist your knickers, those of you flapping about like headless chooks...

It's lights out for one hour.

Nobody's suggesting other appliances are involved.
In my own case, that would mean turning off 2 switches in one room at 8.30pm and saving a whole 200 watts.

And I could still see indoors by the light of my telly... or my monitor... or perhaps the fanatical glow from the eyes of distant Anti-Earth Hour worriers might reach even here?
