759692 2009-03-29 10:08:00 And the victim's gender is significant because....?

... the law (legislation.govt.nz) says so?

But this was a homicide. A woman's life is not worth more (legislation.govt.nz 0) than a man's life.

I'm sorry Deano but I was brought up in the time when you were not a man if you hit a woman so yes the gender makes a difference.

759695 2009-03-29 10:42:00 You'll be on parole for the rest of your life when you get out. Breach it / fail to report when ordered to / commit a crime / fail to abide by your conditions , you go back to prison.
Should work like that but sadly it doesn't

Sorry I thought we were talking about the one that got the bash.

759697 2009-03-29 21:32:00 You only have to be on this forum for a day or so and you gain a real insight into the ugly side of NZ society - the woman hating, Paul Henry loving, Māori hating, etc etc etc rump.

It has been instructive to be around this place because I have gained an insight into the fact that there is a whole section of NZ society that is not too different from the sheet wearers in the Southern States who lynched blacks from the nearest tree. It is also increasingly obvious that a NZ Hitler would find it easy to gain recruits around this place.

I don't know whether it has something to do with being around computers or not, but I have never come across such a concentrated source of hate anywhere in a community before than I have seen in this forum.

Many of you seem to think that the reason so many good people have left this forum is the Fairfax ads. Personally, I think it is because of the politics of the place. You can do something about the ads, but you sure can't do anything about the politics of bias and smugness.

xkcd.com

I mostly agree with you btw

759699 2009-03-30 08:08:00 I see that young Bailey Kurariki Jr is back behind bars for allegedly assualting his girlfriend. (Male assaults Female). Remanded in custody until May 5th.

He should feel right at home. Then, of course, there are cases of breaching parole to answer for which he was already on bail.

This goes to reinforce my opinion that some people are just going to go their own way without regard for other people, property or the consequences of their actions.

I also have no doubt that the system as a whole has let this guy down. And by the SYSTEM I can include his Parents, Family, Schools, his Peers, Corrections, the community he lives in and any other interested person or possibly disinterested persons. Where was the Whanau?

I'm no Saint but I haven't yet been a resident of Borstal as we had them in my youth or indeed any other Correctional institution.

As a Community, we seem to ignore what is going on in front of our noses and I am ashamed to say that where I would have once given a youth a kick up the tail end or a clip over the ear I no longer feel empowered to do that.

Well it isn't actually - it costs more to put someone to death in the US than to have someone in prison for life.
