| 759681 | 2009-03-29 01:39:00 | The Sensible Sentencing Trust is nothing but a publicity vehicle for the grandiose ego of Norm Withers. That was proved in the Emery case when the Trust's comments were entirely in opposition to their goals and mission statement. | Deane F (8204) | ||
| 759682 | 2009-03-29 01:43:00 | Parole is a failed experiment. Its just a get out of jail free card for crooks to re offend. The Parole board just decline the first 1 or 2 boards just to keep the public quiet then release the crook on the 3rd or 4th. The only thing between us and the crooks is the sensible sentencing trust I have nominated Garth McVicar for a knighthood, Garth and I hope later its Sir Garth is up there with Sir Ed and Pinetree. Well they gave rodger douglas a knighthood. And average male would have taken that scum out but chicks are a bit vulnerable as they not used to fighting are smaller, and prone to panic and screaming. |

| 759683 | 2009-03-29 01:43:00 | And the victim's gender is significant because....? Because its a mans role in life to protect the "chicks", Not to assault and kill them. People can make all sorts of claims about equality but when the **** hits the fan its the mans job to die in the line of fire. Other men can look after themselves for the most part, besides, they too most probably have women folk to protect. |

Parole works well most of the time. Governments have for years talked tough on crime at elections. To keep their promises they have generally raised the sentence for an offence, and then reduced the real time you have to serve for an offence by allowing earlier parole. It was National who bought in the release after a third of sentence provisions years ago because they'd made such a thing about being tough on sentencing but needed a back door way out of the increasing prison muster. Reality is if you sentence more people to long sentences you have to find ways to let them out earlier as there are only so many prison beds (tax payers don't like funding new prisons). Also the get tough policy means you don't spend as much on rehabilitation, so you let people back out on the street who had no help to address their problems. Then you underfund the Probation Service so they can't possibly track the paroles and you have what we have today. So called Sensible Sentencing is likely to have the impact of contributing to more serious offending, achieving the opposite of what its proponents hope. How do we know? Because they do all of this in the US and they have a far worse problem than we do, including their murder rate for what it is worth. Death Penalty doesn't reduce the murder rate either, for those who think that is the way out. |

Death Penalty doesn't reduce the murder rate either, for those who think that is the way out. The problems in America aren't caused by the sentencing, The sentencing is a response to actions of the criminals and the wishes of the populace. We know that a chunk of society doesn't give a damn what the effects of their actions are, and that's more then enough reason to lock them away from society for as long as possible. As for the death sentence, Your right it won't work as a deterrent for those that don't care about the punishment and we can see that most murderers are past caring about the future (if they ever did) when they start killing people, However it would bring repeat offending down to a suitable level, and if done at the court house straight after sentencing could save us billions. Personally I believe seeing uncle Billy shot dead out the back of the court house would send a powerful message back to his family about what sort of behaviour will get you killed. |

I suspect the definition of a liberal leftie is anyone who doesn't agree with you, and real people are anyone who does. |

Um, so do your "rules" mean you think it is ok to hit people who are not shorter than you, female, or wearing glasses? |
