This forum seems to match pretty perfectly the online your views in NZ Herald and talk back radio. No one in their right mind thinks 12.5 yrs is right for giving one chick the bash and brutally murdering another chick.(I say brutal because she died slowly in pain on the dirt) Unless the judge was influenced by something he hasn't been made public he got some explaining to do Stupid cops who lately leave a camera loafing, drive drunk, do a shopkeep for defending himself, probably wont appeal the sentence. |

I consider the view that we should look after filth and have them amongst us so they can visit their hell on more innocent people to be an abnormality and a defect. Society must remove those that act against it in such heinous ways, and a person capable of bashing a young woman to death deserves nothing from us except a worthy punishment for his crimes, Where he comes from and whatever is wrong in his head that allows him to take such action is of no consequence. |

| 759677 | 2009-03-28 23:18:00 | I love the way the Sensible Sentencing crowd love to misrepresent things, the guy got a life sentence not 12.5 years. This minimum parole stuff should have been left as it was because we now get people taking the minimum parole period as the actual sentence which it isn't. These are the same people who supported the stabbing to death of a kid for painting a wall, and in that case didn't want him locked up for life. He won't get out in 12.5 years, and if he gets out after that it will be after the Parole Board has considered his case. |

I'd be more than happy if he spent 40 yrs inside personally, but for years and years the minimum parole period was seven years (and then ten) and strangely now it has increased for some, everyone is suddenly up in arms about it . As the Sensible Sentencing Trust found out recently though, when the minimum sentence applies to someone they're supporting, suddenly they don't want the minimum sentence to apply . I didn't see anything wrong with ten years as minimum for everyone, and give the Parole Board the job of deciding when or if they get out . |
