No chance they'll be landfill, they are worth too much as scrap metal! It would be a bit like having your dog shot in front of you rather than put down at the pound (if a court ordered it be destroyed). The mental image of seeing their pride and joy (and symbol of manhood or rebellion) crushed would live on much longer than the financial pain. They wouldn't want to go through that too often.
