Anyway, yeah crush the lil pocket rockets of repeat offenders. If someone was killed as a result of the offense, put the driver in the car too :D

760467 2009-03-29 21:28:00 Would they drain the petrol out of them first or check the stereo head for a crap rap cd or do they just push them straight in?
I might look at setting up a company to make a mobile car crusher might be a growth industry you call I crush. I would almost pay for the privilege of crushing jap cars.

760468 2009-03-29 21:50:00 Although I agree with the concept of crushing the cars of these puerile idiots, I can see the increased likelihood of car chases occurring when the 'chasee' has a couple of offences on his record .

Don't care if a finance company has lent money on the vehicle - their problem .

But as discussed in a thread a few months ago, the car crushing should go hand-in-hand with compulsory 3rd party insurance and a WOF issued when the vehicle (re-registered) .

This way, illegal/dangerous mods can be monitored, if the car owner chooses NOT to go the registration/WOF/insurance way, the Police already have an ability to enforce no warrant/no rego .

Though perhaps some leeway could be given to produce such, within, say, three business days if no documentation is present on the vehicle .

You'd have to drain the petrol out of them first - in most instances that would be the single most valuable item in the vehicle!! :D

760470 2009-03-31 01:17:00 Why crush them? Just confiscate the car and then sell it... like the police do with stolen property that gets recovered where they can't trace the owners...
In these environmentally friendly times we live in, surely crushing them for more landfill isn't the best option! And, depriving them permanently of their beloved car has surely achieved the purpose of punishment!
Sell the car to someone else..there's a lot of people who like performance cars but are still responsible drivers! Or, even sell them to wreckers to dismantle them for parts!
I don't think just crushing them is the best answer..

The confiscated vehicle may well be sold to another racer or even the original owner. You may have a point about selling the vehicle for parts but the wrecker will possibly go into black market and just onsell the vehicle as a whole.

In the event the vehicle is crushed I would think that may tone down the behaviour we see today on our roads.

The main thing, I think, is to deprive them financially... and taking their car off them is much better than a fine from the courts that they just pay back at $5 per week for the next 20 years and don't change their behaviour.
Not many people can afford to come up with the cash or credit to buy another car again immediately. And if they do, and it gets confiscated again, I'm sure they will learn their lesson pretty quickly!
But, I still don't think crushing a perfectly good car is a good idea (assuming it is in fact legal, roadworthy etc..which many aren't). Just have some restrictions that prevents them buying their own car back again, and if it was an auction run by the police they'd have safeguards... and then assuming the car is roadworthy and below the exhaust noise limits etc, then just sell it! And the proceeds can go towards more police, or road improvements etc...

There's quite a psychological thing with having your car crushed though - that in itself is probably more effective than the fact that it is confiscated (which already happens).
