759792 2009-03-26 18:21:00 He never said coconut tree which is botanically a grass. So grow a proper tree. prefect (6291)
759793 2009-03-26 18:41:00 The Poms do it too. How many times have you heard them totally ignore all the Commonwealth forces that fought in WW11?

Even as recently as Blair, who grandly informed Bush and the American public that Britain stood alone until America joined the war. Yeah, right...

And how often are the Indian and Newfoundland troops written out of the history of Gallipoli? Etc, etc, etc

759794 2009-03-26 20:21:00 Even the countries who were defeated in Hitlers grand tour of Europe had armies of people who escaped the occupation and fought.
Holland, Norway, Belgium, Poland, Czechslovakia, even France to name a few had what were called free forces.
Britain had over 1/4 of the world standing behind her in the shape of the British Empire.
The Americans came in late to both wars helped a bit and shortened the war by a few months.

A quibble, I know, but my reading of WW11 history did not disclose that a 1/4 of the world were standing behind Britain... Most of the time they were beside her, and in some cases way out in front - e.g. in the North African desert, particularly in the case of 28 Battalion (the Māori Battalion)!

759797 2009-03-26 21:46:00 A complete supply of Ammo for the Corsair would be 2350 x .50 (12.7 mm). Just thought I'd tell you that.

To be fair assuming a pilot could hold his guns on a single tree while flying at 150mph, .50 rounds are going to make a mess of it. And anyone behind it. :D

Do a Google search for the effectiveness of a round from a Barrett sniper rifle.

Completely off topic, but Winston reminds me of one of a story told by one of my three uncles who served in WW1. He told me that he never shot anyone - believable from that particular unc, whose great WW1 feat was assisting his Aussie and Kiwi mates to liberate a booze carrying train. Anyway, he said he was creeping through a wood when he came across a really fat German trying to hide behind a very thin tree. Uncle said he laughed so much he dropped his rifle and the German got away... Well, it is a good story to tell your nephew. Better than the uncle who was a machine gunner - in his final years that uncle would only talk about the war, and cry whilst he did so.

Thats what I mean, all the bullets are harmonized to arrive at one spot at a certain range but the the range is ever decreasing as the plane closes and the tree isnt moving( As is normal with trees)
Unlikely that many bullets from the mg would strike the tree. Unless and its a big unless the plane could fly and shoot on its side but then again the bullets would striking the tree top to bottom instead of concentrating.
Have you ever been to a traffic accident where the story changes god knows war must be buku worse than a traffic accident.

759800 2009-03-27 03:52:00 If the plane has to move while shooting at the tree, then you have to run around too. I assumed that the pilot could set the rules since you were the one saying BS, so he will set the plane at a comfortable distance and rest the tailwheel on a stand. You may feed the tree any number of herbal supplements for up to a week prior to the demo. ;) R2x1 (4628)
