759641 2009-03-26 21:59:00 On the other hand, I believe Karen Aim's family considered justice had been done. Perhaps they are more mature in the Orkneys than this shower on PressF1. John H (8)
759642 2009-03-26 22:03:00 Well what about the chick who got the bash, she is complaining in the NZ Herald today the sentence of zero was too light for her injuries.
She should harden up like an Orkney Islander.

759643 2009-03-26 22:04:00 To be precise, he got a life sentence, with a 12.5 year non-parole period. However the cynical amongst us will know that this effectively means 12.5 years. Perhaps a trust fund should be created so that the victim's parents could afford to return for the parole hearing (I assume they have one) so they can ask that he stays in jail.... johcar (6283)
759644 2009-03-27 00:15:00 "what about a trust fund for the murderer? He will need help to get back on his feet when he is released. He is a victim too in all of this. What about his rights?"

hahaha.

As I see it there are two kinds of people in this world: those willing to forgive, and those who don't.

I am in the latter group because frankly criminals should lose their rights when they never gave their victims any of their rights.

And you think anyone should give a toss about your views in this situation? Justice should be about what the victim (or their family) thinks and feels about the judge's sentence, not some self appointed outsider. As I noted, Mr Aim showed a great deal more maturity about the death of his daughter and the sentence imposed than any of the rabid mob posting in this thread.

Ok, Ive been biting my tongue on this one, but I have to disagree.

This guy has already proved to be a repeat violent offender.

He is scum and nothing more, just because one family forgives him should we really care? Or should we give him another chance to be forgiven by another family down the track?

This guy does not deserve the air we breathe.

759650 2009-03-27 05:04:00 Here is what I suggest...

We make a register of people who disagree with scum being punished for their crimes, and when that scum goes on to perform another crime against any person in the future then that same crime gets visited upon the people on the register.

So as an example, John H would register his disapproval of real world punishment, The scum then rapes and bashes a woman, next thing he knows poor misguided John H of Chacha is getting his arse raped, his head and face bashed, and his personal effects taken off him. Can you even imagine the horror of that happening to you?

What's the bet when they have to pay a real world price for the actions of scum the fluffy feelings for filth go out the window.

Put a bullet in him now, He's a waste of our resources and a blight on society.
