759731 2009-03-31 09:41:00 Sigh.

Punishment made to fit the crime, genius. It's not like a kid should be stabbed for littering. Just give him a gentle smack on the head. That's what I do to my brother.

:illogical

Can you not manage to discuss something without sarcasm?

YOU are parenting your brother?.... I'd say you are not the one to be doing the smacking as your brother DOESNT see you as a parent, but as a sibling beating him up!

As a big brother I have a responsibility for correcting him....though of course in a brotherly way.

759735 2009-03-31 23:25:00 My two boys fight, they last about an hour playing PS2 before the fighting starts. I used to fight with my brother. Its normally caused by the younger one trying to be the equal of the elder one I think. prefect (6291)

I disagree mate, that is your parents job. You may need to protect, keep an eye on, but never should you be responsible for discipline IMHO.

Your brother only knows you as a sibling, NOT a parent.

Your opinion.

But will you let your brother commit some sort of unlawful action under your nose? I don't think so. Besides, it's not like one of our parents will be on his tail at all times. You don't have to be a parent to correct a family member.

Not always.

Schools used to hand out discipline to students as in loco parentis and still do but it may be detention today.

What happens if both Parents die at the same time and leaves an older sibling to look after the younger ones?

Ok, I'll answer you 1st, if both parents die, then of course that is a different matter.
