759721 2009-03-31 00:24:00 A good old smack on the back of the head? So Sweep was going to give a smack on the back of the head to a kid who stepped out too far?

And he was going to use his own judgment and discernment to decide which youth he got to assault in this particular manner?

Not quite correct there. I did not mention a smack on the head. That could cause more injury to a brain that does not seem to work now.

But yes as to the second sentence.

And your well thought out solution to the situation the citizens find themselves in is?

What we're saying today is that you're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem.

759722 2009-03-31 01:06:00 How exactly do you think Sweep would tell the difference?
eg, kids tagging/ pissing/****ting on lawns/ doing burnouts/ stealing etc....

vs

kids walking past/ saying hello/ making a purchase (of a legal item) etc....

I think it would be obvious whether or not a kid deserves a smack.

759723 2009-03-31 01:20:00 I further note that there is nothing in this thread that mentions verbal abuse.

E.G. If you tell a child often enough that he/she is worthless then that child will eventually beleive it.

I wonder what DeaneF thinks about that.

I thought if you weren't part of the solution you were part of the precipitate.

I wonder if all of you 'kill the criminals' crowd have ever broken laws? No?

I take it you've never driven over 50kph in a 50kph zone then. Or jaywalked. Or made a mistake on your tax returns. Or stepped outside a bar with a beer in hand.

The punishment is to fit the crime, and there is no way to compare revenue raising via speed restrictions with bashing a young women to death.

Only an idiot would try to do so.

Good one Shermo, lets compare apples to oranges . . . yay!

Where do these people come from?

Sigh .

I have already admitted to the fact that I am no Saint .
Are you using the word "precipitate" as a verb, noun or adjective?

I don't do tax returns so therefore I made no mistake . The Government said we did not have to as I remember it .

I have never stepped outside a bar with a beer because I don't drink beer in a bar .

Jaywalk is an American term and as I live in NZ I just go by the misguided laws we have here .

I take it that every persons speedometer is 100% correct and shows the actual speed over the ground which is why at one time the MOT and Police had a built in 10% tolerance . Not so today in school zones .

I will also add that none of the offences you mention are criminal except possibly tax evasion which means making lots of "mistakes" on your tax return .

I am big enough and ugly enough to take the responsibility for my own actions BTW . Responsibility is not a word we hear very often but I decided to use it .

759728 2009-03-31 04:40:00 A noun. You can tell this because the definite article "the" is used. That was a joke. It was kind of meant to difuse some of the raging emotions that spring up here on a regular basis but apparently failed.

So the only crimes that count are ones that you think count? Glad we cleared that one up :)

So do you think that using violence against these youths would solve a problem? Do you not also think that it would risk creating one as well?

Sigh.

Punishment made to fit the crime, genius. It's not like a kid should be stabbed for littering. Just give him a gentle smack on the head. That's what I do to my brother.
