760454 2009-03-29 07:17:00 This new law to crush cars is ridiculous - take away their internet access I say after three accusations of bad driving.

Or at least be consistent, crush a car after three accusations of speeding.

760455 2009-03-29 07:26:00 So it's ok to terrorise your neighbourhood, put innocent people's lives at risk, and destroy our roads (and be caught twice), before anything substantial happens to you? somebody (208)

I think that's what it said in the news, it will only apply to repeated offenders.

Just to see the expression on their faces as their jap crap car gets turned into a thick feeler gauge.

And you work that out how?? Think Section 92A before you reply.

I work it out as follows:

Section 92A:
- ISPs had to be judge, jury and executioner
- Guilty upon accusation (not specifically in the law, but that was the effect)
- Downloading copyrighted material does not damage our internet connection infrastructure
- Copyright infringement does not put people's lives at risk

Illegal street racing + crushing cars:
- Crime is investigated and prosecuted with due process, through our judicial system
- Guilt has to be proven through the court process
- Illegal street racing damages our roads
- Drivers put innocent people's lives at risk

The laws are already there - illegal street racing, speeding, dangerous driving etc. are already against the law, and for good reason. The only difference here is the punishment - clearly fines don't work, impounding cars doesn't work, our prisons are overcrowded.

Three people I knew were killed by a boy racer several years ago, doing over 100km/hr in a residential area. The accident devastated the community, the families, and friends of those involved. I was at the funeral for one of the victims, and can assure you that it was not fun.
