759781 2009-03-26 04:04:00 An article in todays Dom Post reprinted from The Times tells about how Hollywood have felt compelled to include Americans in exclusively British operations like U-571, Saving Private Ryan, Stalag Luft III etc.

759783 2009-03-26 06:49:00 Lot of stuff pretty sus.
Years ago I was drinking piss in the Riverhead Arms and was talking to an ex airfarce pilot who flew Corsairs in WW2 in Pacific.
He reckoned he could fire the cannons on a tree bigger than you could put your arms around and it would fall down
Ever since then I dont believe any war story they just seem to be like the fish that got away.

759784 2009-03-26 06:55:00 Probably. A lot may depend on which side the writer is on, or in which country you live.

Many French think they won the Battle of Waterloo and the Battle of Trafalga.

The Japanese have busily been revising history since the end of WWII.

I remember finding out in a discussion with a Dutch friend that we had each been taught differently at school about General Blake and Admiral Tromp in the Dutch/English war around 1650 or thereabouts.

I think though that we may be all agreed that John Wayne single handedly won the war for the Americans from the Pacific to Europe :clap

Here was me thinking it was Audie Murphy who turned back the German troops.

I guess I went to a different school.

Ok John Wayne had some help, and to his credit Audie Murphy did it for real...

759788 2009-03-26 09:12:00 I was at the RSA just recently and met the bloke who masterminded the victory - in both world wars. Single-handed. On a Saturday. He can drink a fair bit too. Don't ask him about fishing though, he exaggerates a bit there.

We need a Corsair, a fair bit of ammo, and a large-ish coconut tee. Put the ex pilot in the Corsair to demonstrate his theory, and Prefect can stand behind the tree waving his Union Jack to demonstrate his theory. ;)

759789 2009-03-26 09:56:00 A complete supply of Ammo for the Corsair would be 2350 x .50 (12.7 mm). Just thought I'd tell you that.

And you might be able to get one from one of these places:-

6 x .5 Brownings with around 400 rounds each, I don't think Prefect could find a coconut tree thick enough for him to stand behind
