2009-03-26 01:17:00 | Jache Broughton was given a life sentence today with a non-parole period of 12.5 years. This means he could be out before he's 30.

2009-03-26 07:03:00 | All he got for brutally murdering a chick was 12 years and 6 months. Considering what you would get for same offence in Singapore which is touted as a fine example of a state by the last labor government. He would of got his neck stretched at Changi jail. To me this doesn't seem right. The minister of justice should fire the judge he is too far out of touch. Unless the judge was thinking other things like the victim was just an alien tourist or that she was a bit pissed I just dont know what he was thinking.

2009-03-26 07:17:00 | I don't get it. Why is 12.5 years called life? | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2009-03-26 07:28:00 | I don't get it. Why is 12.5 years called life? Because with a life sentence, even after release, you are always on probation.

2009-03-26 08:24:00 | You'll be on parole for the rest of your life when you get out. Breach it / fail to report when ordered to / commit a crime / fail to abide by your conditions , you go back to prison. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2009-03-26 08:45:00 | So where is Bailey Kurariki Jnr currently? Until May, at least, he is on bail thanks to a Judge. Admittedly he did not get a life sentence and was convicted of manslaughter rather than murder. Do you trust the Parole Board to get it right? I don't.

2009-03-26 11:23:00 | You'll be on parole for the rest of your life when you get out. Breach it / fail to report when ordered to / commit a crime / fail to abide by your conditions , you go back to prison. Ain't nothing compared to what people like Karen Aim's father and Schofield have to go through for the rest of their lives. Especially when the parole conditions are so poorly regulated and is such a joke, as is the whole justice system in NZ.

2009-03-26 21:18:00 | He also got 6 years for assulting Karen Aim's friend at the same time. But the judge let him serve the additional 6 years concurrently. | utopian201 (6245) | |
2009-03-26 21:26:00 | So he got 12.5 years for brutally murdering someone and got off free for giving another chick the bash. Why didn't the stupid judge add the two sentences together. Man that guy is one sicko judge.
