| 761020 | 2009-03-31 10:38:00 | Saw an item on the news tonight about an ad for Stihl chainsaws that was being complained about by some group or other, claiming some kind of ownership of community standards Ad was an old man on his deathbed, whispering to his grandson as he died to look after his mother. When everyone else around the bed asked what his final words were, the grandson said "He said I can have his chainsaw". I hadn't seen the ad before, but thought it very funny and certainly in no worse taste than a recent Stella Artois ad - a series, in fact - where a similar scenario occurred where the grandson blamed the priest for drinking the dying man's last wish: a glass of Stella. Some people have no sense of the absurd. :groan: If you can't laugh at death, you need to get a life. Some people (like my SWMBO) don't even like Monty Python!!! :waughh: :illogical When it comes down to it, DDB and Stihl will be very happy with the controversy generated - the type of person buying a chainsaw is very likely to see the funny side. A bloke can get very emotional about his chainsaw! |

Lets face it, no matter what you do, in a world of 6 billion people there will always be someone who will see a negative side to something. And in some people the urge to gripe is pathological. Perhaps we should feel sorry for the humorless complainant. Dunno about the chainsaws, but the local commercial mower teams use Stihl weedeaters, and they seem really sweet for low noise and low revs (tiny petrol engines). |

Go figure . :waughh: |

| 761027 | 2009-03-31 19:50:00 | Andreas Stihl invented the modern chainsaw, and the Company make the best still (pun intended). Stihl are the largest selling chainsaw. Their other products are equally as good. | Richard (739) | ||
