Breathing springs to mind as an alternative.

761721 2009-04-02 21:19:00 Let's for one moment put the Women charged with her murder to one side.
Weather she got her injuries from an accident or someone bashing the crap out of her, there still was a delay and as we read

A concerned St John paramedic told The Dominion Post that the ambulance officer who initially responded from Feilding sought backup when he realised he lacked experience to treat the badly injured girl.
The paramedic said the blunder was another sign that ambulance services were at "crisis point".
And St John is at crisis point, There are many ambulances around the country
only staffed with one person, What happens if they get called to someone who say is rather large and fallen down some stairs.

I believe the finance side is in the poo as well.

You're absolutely right - they are underfunded, underresourced and understaffed, but that's still no reason to blame them for the girl's death.

Yes you are correct in this situation...But let's say your daughter had a nasty
fall or something total accident. And there were delays getting her to hospital
and she died....would you feel the same way and who would you blame ?

and she died . . . . would you feel the same way and who would you blame ?

I would place the blame squarely on the shoulders of all the governments going back yonks who have turned a blind eye to the need for a proper nation wide free ambulance service .

It is the same with rescue helicopter services, underfunded and relying on charity, actually one of the few charities I donate to, having used their services once, instead of being in one when out on SAR :)

and she died....would you feel the same way and who would you blame ?

It would depend on:
1) What caused the delays
2) Whether she would have survived if she had made it to the hospital in time
3) Whether I could have done anything to prevent the accident

As you have said, this scenario isn't the same as the one reported in the media, so different arguments would apply.

If my daughter had a fall or suffered in an accident, the ONLY person I would blame for her condition would be the person responsible for looking after her at the time of the accident or myself. I would pray that doctors, nurses or ambulance staff had the knowledge and capacity to help her in time....

I quite agree with 'somebody', everyone seems nowadays to expect\demand and\or shift blame from themselves....It has got out of hand in the last 15 yrs...

However, in a statement on Thursday, St John operations director Tony Blaber says interim findings show an Advanced Life Support capable doctor was on the scene in 19 minutes, and a double-crewed ambulance from Feilding arrived within the next minute.

"In addition a clinical manager with specialist skills, an Advanced Life Support emergency helicopter and an Advanced Life Support crew from Wanganui were also mobilised," Blaber says.

"The patient received high level clinical care at the scene and needed to be stabilised before being transported to hospital in an air ambulance."

Interim investigation findings from St John's medical advisor showed the specific care provided to Cherish had been of a high standard and it was unlikely it had any impact on her outcome.
