Amazingly the NRA wont agree to proposals to stop people with mental illness owning guns. In NZ your gun licence gets pulled on the whim of a cop. |

A lot of America seem to recognise how absurd their situation is. The Simpsons had Homer trying to get a gun, and being refused because they have a one week stand down period between buying and collecting the weapon. Homer's response "But I'm angry NOW". Another favourite comedy (yeah, I'm a comedy nut) had a character complaining that he was made to rage and fume for an extra week before venting his anger with a gun. Can't imagine anyone managing to kill 3 cops and injure others armed only with a kitchen knife. Gun ownership only leads to more deadly crimes, and sometimes (often perhaps) at the hands of people who would once never considered killing. Add in all the kids who injure themselves or friends by doing the "point and squeese" with the gun in mum's handbag. How many kids ever accidentally get killed playing with knives (the refernce to knives is because they'd be the next most dealy weapon if we were free of guns). Lets face it, from about age 4 kids know how to pull a trigger... but they can be age 20 and in the army before they begin to come close to comprehending how deadly they can be. And, as a final shocker.... there's about a million firearms in NZ civilian hands. We are NOT really much better off, except that most of our guns are rifles or shotguns, and too small to conceal and carry in a pocket or purse. |

Quite right I agree Wolf our police would have blasted him to kingdom come and a few stray bystanders as well going on their previous records. I aint worried NZ has a million guns because some people have heaps of them, some collectors. Others have different guns for different animals. Every proper farm in NZ probaly has a .303 a .22 and a shottie minimum for doing the deeds around the farm. Like you wouldnt use the 303 on a rabbit or wild geese, you wouldnt use the .22 to kill wild pigs. The total number of guns in NZ is irrelevant its the mental state of their owners which is important you can only fire one rifle at the same time. Semi auto with 7 shot mag arent a prob either. You could kill a lot of people with a 110 yrs old 303 and bunch of 5 shot speed clips. |
