761687 2009-04-01 22:01:00 Hello one and all , I am in line for buying a new computer straight out of the box stuff without it being terribly expensive, and I guess that there are just so many choices to choose from.
Any clues?
Probably best to say what I do or dont do with computers.
I am not a gamester so I dont need lots of smoke and mirrors as regards that one, but I do use the computer a lot for emails and general info' and generally surfing around a lot.Its a bit of a life line for me due me being crook a lot and unable to get out of the house as much as I would like. That's about it.
Many thanks for information.

761688 2009-04-01 22:47:00 Why buy a new computer?

You already have enough if you install more RAM and clean up the problems.

Are you on dialup or broadband for your internet?

761689 2009-04-01 23:32:00 Well, the thing is that I have put another drive in f drive because my wife is a photo nut and constantly keeps adding pics.
When I had the extra drive put into the computer the guy at the shop said that if I wanted to add any more hard drive then I would have to get a larger mother drive, burble, burble, at this point I checked out of the conversation.
Anyway ,so what I figured is -to give the wife the whole of the computer with two hard drives in and buy myself another computer-so that's what it's is all about.

761690 2009-04-01 23:41:00 OK. You now need a new computer then.

Have you checked out local suppliers. Preferably those that have been in business for some time if you need support?

Sorry for the questions but without knowing the full story it is difficult to give advice.

Have you got a budget as to what you are prepared to spend?

Not when he wants to do something when the wife is on.

Then buy a real PC, not some "brand" thing.
Just because you tuned out doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about. If he can upgrade it, then he can build you another entire PC.

761694 2009-04-02 03:08:00 Get a Dell squire blardy good value and you can get anything you want. Although they dont do a 5.25 fdd anymore.
It turns up in a bunch of boxes and you just plug it in.

Yea but there is a recession on. While the "best" options might be;
1. Build your own
2. Get a PC shop to build it for you
3. Dell
4. The rest of them
- based on Adeyes comments maybe best to skip "1" and then it depends on how many $$ you have, you can get a lot of Dell for $2K screen included
