| 858014 | 2010-02-13 05:58:00 | Hey all. Finally the old D-Link system has sucked a kumera :crying. So, what to buy? I require good strong signal in a slightly abnormal house. A ....... l l l *l l......l l* l l l l.*...l l l ....... + + *%+ B + + + Two buildings (A & B) separate but very close arranged in a boomerang layout. * are the PC's % is the position of the modem Distance from modem to most distant laptop is about 15m through 3 gib board walls and 2 windows. I have 3 contenders in mind but am open to any sound advice. 1 - Linksys WAG160N 2 - Netgear DG834G V3 3 - D-Link DSL 2740B Cheers :) PS: all the spaces have been lost from the formatting, so imagine a map of New Zealand. The modem is in Nelson, PC 1 is in New Plymouth. PC2 is in Hamilton and the roving laptop is in Northland. |

In my experience this has always been a sound, helpful forum... This is my disclaimer; In no way will I hold anyone responsible for the choice I make based on any anecdotal experiences posted here. Thank you for the bandwidth. |

| 858018 | 2010-02-13 10:24:00 | Yeah I'd avoid the WAG160N personally ... The NetComm NB6Plus4WN is nice, but what you'd be best off doing is getting something like a WRT54GL, popping DD-WRT or Tomato on it, bumping up the power output, and getting a larger antenna or two. | 858020 | 2010-02-14 02:17:00 | Have you checked out PriceSpy for the latest prices - some sites now have it for around $145 incl GST Look forward to see how you get on with it as I'm looking at upgrading my 5 year old US Robotics router to the NetComm. Trev |
