764406 2009-04-12 23:57:00 My car is leaking somewhere & I can't figure out where. The foot rest area of the front passenger seat is soaked & everything else is fine. I don't think it is getting through the door seals

Would a mechanic be able to find the problem & fix it, or is there someone else I should take it to?

764407 2009-04-13 00:02:00 the heater core may be leaky or take the carpet trim off and check for any bungs or rust holes in the floor and replace or repair as necessary, and maybe put a container near the leak spot and see if you can spot the source williamF (115)
764408 2009-04-13 00:32:00 also check the air con drain. sometimes they get blocked and the water ends up in the carpet. tweak'e (69)

I hadn't thought of that. How do I check that?

764410 2009-04-13 00:35:00 A mechanic WOULD be able to find it but by your description it is prolly the heater core or an associated hose or hose clamp.

My money's on the core.

Year/Make/Model and I might be able to tell you if you can do this yourself or need professional help.

If you can translate the UK/Aus/NZ name for the vehicle in IS-English.

A 2001 Lotus Cherry Blossom does not compute to any American name for a car.. Know what I mean?

Another symptom: the windshield (windscreen/NZ) will fog up if the core's leaking in the plenum. Then there's the associated ugly smell. Unmistakable to a mechanic.

Kinda smells like a wet dog in the sun a week after it died only no flies and a little sweeter.

764411 2009-04-13 01:11:00 It is a 2001 Mazda Capella Jap import, not sure what other names it goes by.

IT does smell a bit like wet dog, but nowhere near as bad as you described. I didn't notice it before because I usually have a car air freshener thing & when I took that off & thought the smell was coming from the wet carpet.

764412 2009-04-13 01:20:00 Pull the carpet out and get it sanitized leave it out till you find the leak.
Run engine until hot turn on heater and see if water coming out onto floor. If the coolant is colored you will get green water leaks.
If it is leaking from the heater core its a massive job to get out and repair. Disconnect hoses from engine no heater or scrap the car.
If no water coming from heater get a hose and spray the front of the car if water coming from plenum chamber or windscreen, repair or scrap car
