| 763311 | 2009-04-08 22:09:00 | Check this out: Hexapod (www.3news.co.nz) It somehow doesn't seem as demonic as that robotic dog that was mentioned here about a year ago (thread now locked)......maybe an ant isn't as intimidating as a dog? It seemed very slow - being a small device each step or 'throw' of each leg was quite small, plus the leg movement wasn't the quickest either. From memory the robotic 'dog' had good balance control on uneven and icy ground - I wonder how the ant would fare? The ability to twist the torso and head was pretty cool - all it needs is a head mounted camera..... When it picked up the battery I was kinda hoping to see it place it on it's end rather than straight back down, but without a second set of claws that isn't going to happen. Is this a private venture? If so, not bad considering there won't be unlimited funds. |
