His father was prominent in local government on Funafuti. A person who knew O'Brien said he had moved to New Zealand last year as a student and married a Tokelauan woman." Shades of that Islander(?) who dragged that guy from his truck a few months ago or so (captured on security cameras). Seriously - do we really need to import crime? Between this crap, Middle-Eastern people of certain religions beating their wives because their god told them it was ok, to that Somali woman who caused havoc on that plane, to the Asian drug dealers/Triad bunch... how much reported crime is committed by people who really only just got here? What I'd love to see if some sort of "good behaviour bond" on migrants. Sure... Kiwis commit all sorts of heinous acts, but at least they're brought up here, with our values, so they're our responsibility. Bash your kids up? "That's the way we act in our country" just doesn't cut it as an excuse. I've managed to get through 40-something years without bashing, murdering or raping. Why can't they? We import many things - we do not need to import crime - we have enough yobbos of our own, thankyou very much. If I was Key, anyone who arrives in this country & commits a major offence like this within 5 years of stepping off the boat, gets thrown onto the next plane back where they came from. 80,000 bucks per year to keep them in our jails? I don't think so. I don't care if you're a refugee and you'll be killed as soon as you're off the plane. Not our problem. Back where you came from - at your expense (i.e. seizing and selling all NZ-based assets to pay the plane fare. Alright.... back to PC reality. /rant	Peterj116 (6762)

In relation to that, I'm talking more about common assault, rather than armed robbery or murder. But the point remains... we shouldn't have to pay to keep these people in NZ taypayer-funded jails, or put up with their behaviour in the first place.	Peterj116 (6762)

I don't think so. I agree totally, and sent back at their own expense where ever it might be. Crime penalties in NZ needs a major revamp. Here you get a slap on the wrist for theft, some countries cut off your hand, somewhere in the middle might be good as one is too harsh and one is too lenient.	Bantu (52)

Also, we would be at war with France, Each year there would be a free Heavy metal festival with the best International, Churches would have all privileges removed,and racist policies would be abolished. 763269	2009-04-08 23:15:00	Quite agree on all this. It is also interesting that the Central Hawkes Bay accountant who nicked $20M was not allowed bail until his sentencing. Lots of people got hit financially and lost investment money. I suppose you have to be awaiting sentence on violence/sex offences or suchlike before bail can be granted!!! Or am I being cynical??
