859311 2010-02-17 03:02:00 I've just reinstalled XP Home on a PC, (SP3 installed) and now I'm having problems accessing it from other computers on the network. The other PCs (Vista and XP home) can both see the problem machine on the network, but if I try to actually access it, I'm asked to log on, and the logon is refused as invalid.

The problem machine has no trouble accessing the other (laptop) XP machine.

I'm sure this is something basic and obvious, but it has been a while since I had to install XP, so I guess I've forgotten.

Any suggestions?

859312 2010-02-17 03:08:00 Have you turned on file sharing on the reinstalled pc? ronyville (10611)
859313 2010-02-17 03:08:00 Have you enabled file sharing and set a folder to be shared? FoxyMX (5)
859314 2010-02-17 03:29:00 D'Oh! I knew it had to be obvious! Thanks people. Tony (4941)
859315 2010-02-17 03:31:00 Also double check you are on the same workgroup as the other PC's. Its not meant to matter, but experience tells it can cause a lot of troubles.

* Windows XP Home workgroup default: "MSHOME"
* Windows Xp Pro workgroup default: "WORKGROUP"

Vista's default is workgroup.
