I had a phone call today from a customer who had not got emails for a couple of days. I had to delay for 15 minutes while I was finishing watching Magnum PI. Yep. I still like it and I make no apology for that. Time driving to his place 6 minutes. 12 minutes to fix the problem. 25 minutes talking about an alternative email client and how to back up emails and address books. etc. 6 minutes return. A person told him Incredimail was great and he went for it. That's why it happened. My charge was zero. I try to look after the people I build for and also fellow computer club members. Today is Easter Saturday. I wonder how long he would have waited for a Dell Tech. |

Nice to see you have enough profit in your systems to do this support on going. How many more times will you do free support due to user error? |

| 763464 | 2009-04-11 10:21:00 | Ya cant beat a Dell. A mate of mine looked at getting a pc from QNB which are very reputable around here but the Dell won on price and features. No hassles any probs ring help line 0800 no and they sort it. Had a keyboard crap out they couried one the next day ya cant beat that. On the contrary - I find that a sufficiently weighted aluminium baseball bat can improve a Dell built system beyond belief. I have had a bad 'toaster shop' experience (at HN - buying an HP branded POS - power supply issues, HDD issues). I replaced it with one built by a local shop (Advanced Computers, Wairau Park, who also supplied my mother with a good machine for her purposes at a reasonable price) which has been operating without fault for several months. When (and if) I have a problem with it, I can take it to the shop, explain what I want/need, and get the service I require - with friendly, personal interaction - and a smile, and usually in and out on the same day (took the HP to them to sort out on a number of occasions). |

She had purchased her PC from me, a while ago now. I had tried over the phone and after a few minutes of her not looking at the right screens I went over instead. No charge. Because they get support. And nothing to do with her hardware she bought either...... |

Never done any work for them in the past but we were recommended by a friend. I hope I get an easter egg out of this. :o Just waiting on the computer to do a backup before I start working on it. It's a Compaq by the way :banana |

(tune it, or connect it yes, but fix it ?) I'll just get out my soldering iron and replace this transistor on your main board. He he |

Also needs a clean as very dusty inside. |

Young Asian guy in Auckland doing a tech course, he did repairs after hours at home. He'd charge something like 50c for the part (if minor) and $10 for the job. Brilliant. Unfortunately he completed his course and went ont to make millions elsewhere instead........Well I presume he did........ Had him fix 2 TVs, a monitor - and a bunch of power supplies (not mine, some place I worked at that were too tight to replace them). |

He he I actually had my TV go faulty many years ago, about 6 months after I bought it. It would be about 8 years ago I guess. The picture would keep on compressing to a couple of small, horizontal white lines for a few minutes and then come back to normal. I think it was still under under warranty, so they arranged a repairman to come out to my house. He basically unplugged it, took the cover off, re-soldered some soldering that had cracked and that fixed it. He also re-soldered some other soldering that hadn't failed, but he could tell by looking at it that it didn't look strong and would have also failed later. 10minute job. He said that a big number of repair jobs are simple soldering where the original soldering had cracked. (Says a lot about the quality of the original soldering! This was a Mitsubishi) So based on that, more people could fix a TV than would realise haha! The same TV is still going strong now, apart from one repair I had to get done about 3 years ago, it's still working perfectly. On one hand it would be good if it did break, gives me an excuse to get a nice new flatscreen :banana |
